I work in a company where we start at 10AM, due to the particular requirement of the service industry. Since starting to work there, going to work 30 minutes – 1 hour early tremendously helped with my productivity.
Being there before everyone else, I have time to
- Clean up all communication on Slack, Email or read through messages in common channels;
- Plan my day, something that is important but also hard to do without a specific focus;
- Do some deep work, again something I only do well when being all alone (such an introvert thing);
- Drink coffee, have breakfast, walk around, admire the quietness
That 1 hour was as efficient as an average of 2-3 hours.
- I rarely miss any messages/emails
- I work faster, and things get done on time
- I have time to save up my energy for a very socially demanding job
- I have time to focus on my team, on other people
So… as they say, early birds get the worm. I am not that early, but I guess I get my deserved worm.
